R&D Scientist Solvent & Waterbased

Location: Pirmasens, Germany; onsite. Willingness to travel as required to support international customers, product introductions, and manufacturing scale-up across Europe.

What you will do

• Develop concepts for new products and prepare and evaluate laboratory formulations for solvent- and water-based adhesive and primer systems.
• Lead formulation development, testing, production scale-up, and commercialization of new products.
• Support product scale-up at manufacturing sites across Europe and define technical specifications, quality parameters, and inspection plans for raw materials and finished products.
• Support Quality teams in resolving quality deviations and customer complaints.
• Communicate with customers and raw material suppliers, oversee the relevant raw material market, and document project progress.
• Collaborate with Sourcing, Product Management, Technical Service, Sales, Quality, Regulatory, and EHS teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, or a graduate engineering degree with a chemical or process engineering orientation.
• Strong understanding of chemistry, materials science, and product formulation principles.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical evaluation skills.
• Ability to independently manage projects and formulation activities in a structured manner.
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in cross-functional and international teams.
• Willingness to travel as required to support international customers with technical solutions and product introductions.
• Very good German and English communication skills, written and spoken.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Experience in the formulation, development, or application of industrial adhesives.
• Methodological knowledge of laboratory testing methods, analytical techniques, and product performance evaluation.
• Customer-facing experience and ability to translate application requirements into technical solutions.
• Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA.
