Senior Industrial Interface Architect (Robotics)

Location: Zürich, Switzerland; the role includes on-site deployment, commissioning, and debugging at customer factory sites.

What you will do

• Architect and advise on the Industrial Context Protocol and over-the-air integration strategy for connecting AI and robotics systems with industrial control infrastructure.
• Lead the end-to-end setup and technical integration of robot stations, dexterous hands, data-collection tools, and wearable hardware at customer sites.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software, hardware, Linux, electronics, and industrial-system issues in high-pressure factory environments, including an expected on-call component.
• Maintain structured field-issue logs and collaborate with robotics, hardware, and AI software teams to build automated setup, diagnostic, and debugging tools.
• Represent the company as a professional technical communicator in customer-facing factory settings.
• Conduct operational checkups, independently refine station setups, and mentor future field and integration engineers.

Requirements

• Extensive, proven experience programming PLCs and working with industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, PROFINET, EtherCAT, and Ethernet/IP across diverse manufacturing or logistics environments.
• Broad knowledge of factory infrastructure including SCADA, HMIs, MES, DCS, and Industry 4.0 or IoT frameworks across multiple sectors.
• An open, curious, adaptable, and first-principles engineering mindset for integrating traditional industrial automation with learning-based robotics systems.
• Proficiency navigating, configuring, and debugging Linux systems and processes.
• Strong diagnostic understanding of electronic circuits, cabling, sensor interfaces, and hardware failure modes.
• Practical ability to write, modify, and debug Python, C++, or Rust for integration layers and diagnostic scripts.
• Strong foundation in robotic arms, end-effector interfaces, and kinematic considerations, with familiarity with ROS2 or similar robotics software stacks.
• Calm, clear, and structured problem-solving and communication skills in customer environments.

Nice to have

• Understanding of functional safety standards, safety PLCs, and certification frameworks such as ISO 13849 and IEC 62061, including Pilz or SICK safety setups.
• Sourcing experience or a background at a leading industrial automation company or system integrator such as SICK, Pilz, ABB, Siemens, or Beckhoff.
• Hands-on experience with over-the-air deployment pipelines, edge containerization, and remote fleet monitoring in industrial environments.
