TL;DR
Drafter CAD - III (Aerospace): Developing 3D CAD models, 2D drawing packages, and large assembly documentation for rocket-engine support hardware, tooling, steel structures, and piping systems with an accent on Siemens NX, Teamcenter, drafting standards, and design for manufacturing. Focus on resolving packaging constraints, translating analysis models into master CAD models, and coordinating fabrication-ready designs across engineers, technicians, and vendors.

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States; travel expected up to 20% of the time. Relocation is provided. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, current U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees eligible to review export-controlled technical information.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $39.34–$55.07 per hour; other site ranges may differ.

Company

hirify.global develops reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems, including rocket engines and propulsion systems for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

What you will do

  • Develop 3D CAD models and 2D drawing packages for steel and aluminum structures, tooling, piping systems, test stands, towers, lifting fixtures, platforms, transporters, and dolly systems.
  • Create layouts, skeletons, installation drawings, packaging models, and multiple design concepts; present trade-offs and incorporate engineering feedback.
  • Coordinate assemblies from other groups and maintain final end-item CAD models, large assemblies, product structures, bills of materials, and drawing packages.
  • Translate development analysis models into master CAD models and support configuration management and PDM workflows.
  • Apply drafting standards, act as the team’s drafting standards checker, and maintain consistent drawing conventions.
  • Partner with engineers, technicians, fabricators, and vendors to resolve issues during fabrication and field integration while optimizing cost, manufacturability, and schedule.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of recent experience designing or drafting steel and aluminum structural parts, components, or subsystems in a 3D CAD environment.
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using Siemens NX.
  • Experience using Siemens Teamcenter for CAD data management, configuration control, and release workflows.
  • Experience managing large CAD assemblies and associated drawing packages through the product life cycle.
  • Experience drafting structural equipment or tooling for aerospace, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial applications.
  • Proficiency with ASME Y14.3, Y14.5, Y14.100, and Y14.41.
  • Familiarity with weld symbology and weld joint design according to AWS D1.1/D1.2.
  • Familiarity with applicable drafting standards and the ability to apply them consistently across a team.
  • Practical knowledge of milling, turning, cutting, and welding, with the ability to design for fabrication.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and drawing packages.
  • U.S. citizenship or nationality, U.S. permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee is required for access to export-controlled technical information.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on fabrication, welding, or machining experience from personal or professional work.
  • Familiarity with ASME B30.20/BTH-1 for below-the-hook lifting devices.
  • Experience creating pipe spool installation and fabrication drawings.
  • Experience with large-scale model manipulation and performance management for complex assemblies.
  • Experience with ergonomic and human-factors considerations in tooling design.
  • Familiarity with OSHA 1910 subparts relevant to personnel access equipment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Safety, collaboration, inclusion, and teamwork are emphasized.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and paid parental leave.
  • 401(k) with company matching of up to 5% and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to four weeks of paid time off per year and up to 14 company-paid holidays.

Hiring process

  • Interviews include a technical assessment.
  • A standard background check is required; additional checks may apply if the role involves a military installation or other regulated duties.
