Senior Database Administrator (Oracle/PostgreSQL)

Location: Belgrade, Serbia. Hybrid position requiring work from the Belgrade office 3 days every other week, with core engagement hours within the CET time zone.

What you will do

• Execute and improve DBMS lifecycle tasks, including installations, upgrades, patching, and configuration updates.
• Troubleshoot complex performance and availability issues at database, instance, and SQL levels.
• Develop and enhance automation for routine database operations, monitoring, and alerting workflows.
• Analyze infrastructure and performance alerts and provide timely, accurate resolutions.
• Participate in technical reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and improvements to team processes and runbooks.
• Validate, test, and safely execute DBMS operational changes, including participation in a 24x7 production-support on-call rotation.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of DBMS experience, including 3 years of DBMS lifecycle work, 2 years of advanced troubleshooting, 3 years of monitoring, alerting, and observability, 3 years of scripting and automation, 3 years of database security, auditing, and compliance, and 2 years of Linux administration.
• Hands-on experience with modern relational and non-relational database platforms, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Cassandra, and AWS native database services.
• Experience operating, optimizing, securing, and automating large-scale DBMS environments.
• Experience with database lifecycle management, performance troubleshooting, automation, observability engineering, and enterprise security and compliance controls.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Proficiency in English.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools such as Chef, Rundeck, and Ansible, plus YAML and JSON.
• Familiarity with Jenkins and Terraform.
• Deep knowledge of business continuity and high-availability design and operations, including backups, restores, disaster recovery, and data corruption management.
• Experience documenting operational activities through automated and validated technical runbooks and contributing to peer reviews.
• Interest in mentoring junior engineers on database best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
