Staff Software Engineer, Exchange Platform (Fintech)

Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia; in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you will do

• Define the long-term architectural vision, technical roadmap, and engineering standards for high-availability, low-latency cloud platforms.
• Lead multi-quarter modernization initiatives, including migration of foundational services to resilient containerized cloud environments, deployment pipeline optimization, and auto-scaling.
• Architect integrations between Bitstamp’s exchange backend and Robinhood’s global infrastructure.
• Design self-healing systems and intelligent automation to reduce operational toil, technical debt, and scalability bottlenecks.
• Own ambiguous, high-impact initiatives end to end while balancing speed, resilience, cost, and maintainability.
• Mentor senior engineers, lead architecture reviews, support high-severity incidents, and establish safeguards for 24/7 platform resilience.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant backend and distributed systems engineering experience, with experience operating as a technical lead or Staff-level engineer in high-scale environments.
• Advanced expertise in containerization and orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes, and enterprise-scale AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Aurora, and DynamoDB.
• Deep understanding of high-concurrency, low-latency backend architectures, event-driven systems, fault tolerance, and data consistency models.
• Ability to take ambiguous, organization-wide problems from inception to production and deliver high-impact business outcomes.
• Exceptional communication skills for building technical consensus, influencing cross-functional roadmaps, and aligning senior engineering and product stakeholders across multiple geographies.
• A pragmatic, systems-thinking approach to architectural evolution and the operational requirements of supporting a 24/7 financial exchange.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rotation.
