Senior Principal Scientist Veterinary Pathologist (Biopharmaceuticals)

Location: Hybrid, West Point, Pennsylvania, United States. The role is limited to residents of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico; domestic/international relocation is listed as available. Visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: $231,900–$365,000 annual base salary, plus annual bonus and long-term incentive eligibility where applicable.

What you will do

• Evaluate routine H&E slides and apply specialized techniques to characterize the safety profiles of drugs in toxicology and investigative studies.
• Analyze and interpret postmortem data, determine the significance of findings, review scientific literature, and design experiments to solve scientific problems.
• Partner with toxicology, safety pharmacology, and translational teams to define toxicity mechanisms, assess human relevance, and develop risk-mitigation strategies for immunology and biologics programs.
• Use in vitro and in vivo assays, historical control archives, digital pathology, transmission electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, quantitative image analysis, and targeted machine learning applications.
• Develop novel biomarkers and predictive models to reduce safety-related risks for drug candidates.
• Lead nonclinical drug safety activities on development teams, including study design and execution, regulatory strategy, and communications with global regulatory agencies.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience as a veterinary pathologist.
• 7+ years of drug development experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or CRO settings.
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
• Residency in anatomic or toxicologic pathology.
• ACVP, ECVP, or equivalent board certification in anatomic pathology.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams and communicate openly and frequently with colleagues.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of drug discovery, development, and regulatory processes, including experience on drug development project teams.
• Experience supporting immunology and biologics programs.
• PhD in immunology, toxicology, pathology, or a related discipline.
• Experience serving as pathology lead for programs or leading external due diligence as a subject-matter expert.
• Scientific leadership beyond individual studies, including cross-functional and cross-program influence, mentoring, or management of other pathologists.
