Senior Node.js Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Sofia, Bulgaria, with work from the client’s office approximately 2 days per week.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize scalable backend applications using Node.js.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices, and contribute to architecture and solution design.
• Design database schemas, queries, and data access patterns.
• Implement secure authentication, authorization, and data handling practices.
• Develop automated unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Support CI/CD processes, deployments, production troubleshooting, application reliability, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience, including strong hands-on experience with Node.js.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript ES6+ and TypeScript.
• Experience with Node.js frameworks such as Express.js, NestJS, or Fastify.
• Solid understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architecture.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Good knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB, and familiarity with ORM/ODM tools such as Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize, or Mongoose.
• Understanding of software design principles, design patterns, clean architecture, application security, performance optimization, and debugging.
• Experience with Git, collaborative development workflows, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, unit testing, and integration testing.
• Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, good English communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with international teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, or AWS SQS.
• Experience with GraphQL and/or WebSockets.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Experience with serverless architectures.
• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
