Head of Infrastructure (VMware)

Location: Hybrid, Puteaux / Paris, La Défense, France

Base salary: €80,000–€85,000 per year, plus a variable component of up to €8,000 based on objectives.

What you will do

• Manage and maintain the French site's on-premise infrastructure across VMware, Proxmox, and Nutanix.
• Plan and execute capacity management, patching, upgrades, migrations, and troubleshooting across virtualization platforms.
• Lead the local IT team, distribute operational workload, and provide hands-on technical support.
• Manage storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery systems while maintaining 3-2-1 backup, monitoring, security, and IaC standards.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, architecture, and platform teams in France, Italy, and Spain on cross-country initiatives.
• Define operational processes and documentation, including runbooks and incident/crisis management playbooks, and support compliance with eIDAS, NIS2, and GDPR requirements.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience managing on-premise virtualization infrastructure.
• Proven hands-on expertise in at least two of VMware, Proxmox, and Nutanix.
• Solid knowledge of enterprise storage, networking including switching and firewalling, and backup systems such as Veeam.
• Familiarity with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools, including Terraform or OpenTofu and Ansible.
• Production experience with Linux and Windows Server operating systems.
• Working knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Dynatrace and Better Stack, and perimeter security tools such as Fortinet.
• A technical-first, hands-on approach combined with the ability to lead a local IT team.
• Autonomous decision-making, independent priority management, and problem-solving skills in complex, critical infrastructure environments.
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders across countries, with fluent French and English.
