Senior API Engineer (Java)

Location: Athens, Attiki, Greece; hybrid work combining remote and office-based working, including the option to work from abroad

What you will do

• Develop highly performant JVM-based microservices and scalable solutions handling traffic spikes and millions of REST calls per microservice per day.
• Improve core infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, and Java, supporting cluster health and technical business value.
• Research, analyze, design, develop, and test solutions aligned with business and technology strategy in an agile team.
• Develop internal tools, participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and maintain technical integrity and quality throughout the development lifecycle.
• Translate functional requirements into technical user stories, assign business value, and remove technical impediments.
• Collaborate with mobile and web development teams to deliver features from conception to launch.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another related field.
• At least 3–5 years of experience designing and developing RESTful APIs using Quarkus, Spring Boot, or another JVM-based technology.
• Deep understanding of RESTful principles.
• Understanding of service-oriented architecture, microservices, distributed systems, and software engineering concepts at scale.
• Ability to work in a fast-moving team that values communication and team spirit.
• Demonstrated problem-solving experience, self-management, self-motivation, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Greek and English with both technical and business audiences.

Nice to have

• Understanding of WSDL.
• Familiarity with document storage technologies such as MongoDB.
• Open-source contributions.
• Experience working in agile environments or teams.
