Staff Engineer (Market Data)

Location: Remote within the East Coast US and Europe

Company

Dune builds onchain data and intelligence products, including realtime market data feeds, reference data, and historical datasets for institutional customers, protocols, analysts, and other industry users.

What you will do

• Design and build distributed systems for ingesting, normalizing, processing, storing, and delivering realtime market data from blockchain and other relevant sources.
• Build and operate streaming solutions handling event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, gaps, recovery, blockchain reorganizations, and finality.
• Build reliable client feeds and APIs with delivery contracts, schema evolution, access controls, and predictable behavior under load or consumer backlogs.
• Partner with teams on reference data models and historical data capture, and define service objectives and data quality measures.
• Instrument latency, freshness, completeness, and correctness; investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and improve recovery and operations.
• Own services through deployment and production support, participate in on-call rotation, lead technical decisions across teams, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Experience building and operating distributed backend or data services with demanding reliability and performance requirements, including debugging across service and data boundaries.
• Experience with realtime streaming systems, including concurrency, state management, backpressure, recovery, timestamps, numeric precision, schema changes, and corrections.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and backend engineering skills.
• Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into pragmatic designs and production services and help other engineers deliver parts of the solution.
• Clear written communication and effective collaboration with a distributed team.
• Financial or market data experience at a financial institution.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust, Go, or comparable languages.
• Onchain data experience, including blockchain indexing with EVM or Solana.
• Reference data experience with instrument and entity masters, identifier mapping, effective-dated records, or tokenized asset and fund data.
• Experience at a company where data is the product.
