Molecular Biology Intern (Biotech)

What you will do

• Run molecular cloning and protein production end to end, including PCR, assembly, transformation, bacterial and/or mammalian expression, and purification.
• Execute and improve QC for constructs and proteins using capillary electrophoresis, sequencing, and SDS-PAGE.
• Perform characterization assays covering binding, expression, and stability.
• Improve slow or unreliable workflows through better protocols, automation, and failure reduction.
• Work hands-on with liquid handlers and lab automation while transitioning manual protocols toward automated workflows.
• Document experiments precisely, track samples, ensure reproducibility, and diagnose failures across biology, reagents, and instruments.

Requirements

• Hands-on molecular biology experience with PCR, cloning, transformation, and electrophoresis through research, a project, or a prior internship; experience with protein expression and purification is preferred within this requirement.
• BSc or MSc student or recent graduate in molecular biology, biochemistry, or a relevant field.
• Ability to work independently, identify what needs to be done, and take initiative.
• High standards for experimental accuracy, fast execution, and reproducible results.
• Willingness to work on-site in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Nice to have

• Comfort with Python scripting or liquid-handling automation.
