Tinkerer (LLM Post-Training)

Annual salary: $300,000–$400,000 USD, depending on background, skills, and experience

What you will do

• Write, test, and maintain production-quality code examples, fine-tuning recipes, agentic training pipelines, and documentation for Tinker and Inkling, including the Tinker cookbook.
• Work directly with open source developers and researchers to understand and debug technical issues, gather feedback, and optimize fine-tuning and deployment pipelines.
• Partner with research and infrastructure teams to turn community patterns into improvements to Tinker, Inkling, future models, and post-training recipes.
• Build tools, integrations, and demos that simplify experimentation, adoption, and deployment of the models.
• Represent the products through blog posts, guides, tutorials, livestreams, talks, conferences, and meetups, while contributing to and maintaining open source libraries.
• Help shape the developer experience roadmap, near-term priorities, and long-term product strategy.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in developer relations, developer experience, or software engineering with significant open source or community-facing work.
• Strong software engineering skills and experience writing and shipping production-quality Python code.
• Hands-on experience fine-tuning, evaluating, or deploying large language models, including supervised learning, reinforcement learning, and hyperparameter tuning.
• Ability to reason about model training, fine-tuning, and inference and discuss tradeoffs between different approaches.
• Deep expertise in post-training LLMs on new domains and improving model capability, including reinforcement learning and agentic training.
• Track record contributing to, maintaining, or growing open source software libraries, with a strong interest in engaging open source communities.
• Clear understanding of developer experience, including developer ergonomics, onboarding flows, and sharp edges.
• Experience writing public or internal code examples, tutorials, cookbooks, papers, or technical content that helps others understand and apply technical concepts.
• Comfort engaging publicly through talks, livestreams, academic research conferences, and meetup appearances.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with multimodal models covering text, image, and audio, including the tradeoffs involved in training, fine-tuning, and inference.
