Backend Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Build orchestration for multi-step agent tasks, tool calls, streaming updates, and cancellation.
• Implement durable workflows with checkpoints, resumability, retries, and recovery without duplicated actions.
• Integrate generation, editing, and external services through clear and validated interfaces.
• Enforce permissions, tenant isolation, resource limits, and approval requirements for consequential actions.
• Trace failures, create regression cases, and improve task completion, latency, reliability, and cost.
• Own the full delivery cycle from investigating user tasks and defining success criteria to shipping, measuring, and improving agent capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience taking difficult, ambiguous problems through to production systems and explaining personal decisions, contributions, and results.
• Ability to build reliable agent execution using state machines, concurrency, queues, recovery, model APIs, secure tool calls, and repeatable evaluations.
• Ability to investigate real user tasks and failed agent runs, use evidence to prioritize automation, and stop workflows that do not help users.
• Strong ownership, judgment, adaptability, and willingness to share knowledge and responsibility.
• Comfort working with model uncertainty and owning evaluation, recovery, and production reliability.

Nice to have

• Experience with production agents, workflow engines, or developer tools.
• Experience building high-throughput systems with heavy traffic, large data volumes, or long-running jobs.
• Experience with agent context management, memory, subagents, parallel tool calls, sandboxed execution, or scoped authorization.
• Experience with multimodal workflows involving images, video, or audio.
