Senior Casualty Underwriter (Casualty)

Location: Sydney or Brisbane, Australia; primarily office-based

What you will do

• Develop and underwrite commercial casualty business within delegated underwriting authority.
• Assess client risks, price accounts, retain renewals, and create sustainable insurance solutions.
• Build relationships with brokers, producers, clients, and industry groups to grow the casualty portfolio.
• Execute marketing, production, budget, and strategic growth plans for the Australian business.
• Monitor and report production, retention, new business, hit rates, loss ratios, claims activity, premiums, and late bookings.
• Collaborate with client engagement, actuarial, legal, claims, finance, accounting, administration, and other profit-centre teams.

Requirements

• Experience in casualty underwriting across primary casualty, excess, and umbrella products in the commercial segment.
• Technical underwriting skills with an entrepreneurial and solution-oriented approach.
• Established working relationships with key broking partners and major broking houses.
• Understanding of management reporting, profitability assessment, financial impact, underwriting, and pricing principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, influencing, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work primarily from the office in Sydney or Brisbane, Australia.
