Product Finance Director, R&D Capital Allocation & Engineering Operations

Location: Mountain View, California; San Francisco, California; or Seattle, Washington

Salary: $223,800–$307,650 USD in Zone 1; $201,400–$276,850 USD in Zone 2. Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop product-level ROI frameworks and operationalize metrics for R&D investment and resource allocation.
• Model the economics of AI developer tooling, internal token usage, headcount, compute capital, and related cloud spend.
• Lead multi-year headcount planning across global engineering hubs, including cost, talent density, recruiting pipelines, and real estate strategy.
• Build scalable workflows for headcount management, purchase-order planning, monthly accruals, and SOX audit compliance.
• Modernize internal finance tooling using the Databricks platform and provide self-service operational visibility to engineering leaders.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing finance team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Strategic Finance, Product Finance, or R&D FP&A.
• Experience managing large-scale R&D operating expenses, headcount capacity modeling, and multi-site workforce planning in a high-growth enterprise software or cloud company.
• Experience partnering with senior Engineering, Product Operations, and People or Workplace executives.
• Ability to redesign financial processes covering headcount tracking, procurement, close, and SOX controls.
• Experience building, leading, and developing high-output finance teams.
• Hands-on proficiency with SQL, Python, or notebook environments is preferred.

• Experience analyzing cloud development and testing infrastructure and AI tooling or token costs.
• Experience allocating shared engineering and platform R&D costs across complex, multi-product portfolios.
• Experience using Databricks to automate reporting and generate self-service insights from large operational datasets.
