TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Co-op (Aerospace): Designing, manufacturing, validating, and integrating mechanical hardware for spacecraft production with an accent on CAD, engineering analysis, and hands-on hardware development. Focus on coordinating fabrication and assembly, supporting integration and testing, and solving structural, mechanical, and packaging challenges in a high-reliability environment.

Location: On-site in Burlingame, California, throughout the six-month co-op

Salary: $30–$45 per hour

Company

hirify.global develops Pulsar, a low-Earth-orbit satellite infrastructure platform providing precise, resilient global positioning and navigation.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical hardware for spacecraft manufacturing, integration, and testing.
  • Define requirements and develop practical solutions with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Create detailed CAD models, manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and engineering documentation.
  • Perform structural, mechanical, packaging, and test-data analyses to validate designs.
  • Coordinate fabrication, procurement, assembly, integration, verification, and testing.
  • Present technical progress, tradeoffs, risks, and results in design reviews and cross-functional discussions.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, with expected graduation between December 2026 and May 2028.
  • At least one prior internship, co-op, research role, or similarly rigorous hardware-engineering project.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, or supporting mechanical hardware beyond coursework.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software and the ability to create or interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of material selection, fastening, tolerancing, load paths, and mechanical design tradeoffs.
  • Must be able to commit to a full-time, six-month co-op and work on-site in Burlingame. For U.S. export-control compliance, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or other protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Nice to have

  • Experience releasing hardware for fabrication, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, drawings, or bills of materials.
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA and machining, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, composites, or assembly processes.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly, integration, testing, troubleshooting, structural analysis, hand calculations, FEA, or test-data analysis.
  • Experience in robotics, CubeSat, Formula SAE, aerospace, research, manufacturing, or other fast-paced hardware environments.
  • Interest in spacecraft, aerospace, and high-reliability hardware development.

Culture & Benefits

  • Six months of immersive experience alongside experienced aerospace engineers.
  • Ownership of engineering work supporting spacecraft production and deployment.
  • Exposure to the full hardware-development cycle from requirements and design through fabrication, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborative startup environment with meaningful technical ownership and cross-functional work.
  • Hands-on experience in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments.
