CANES SME Curriculum Developer

Location: Onsite at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia, United States

Basic compensation: $35.00–$37.00 per hour

What you will do

• Review system updates and configuration changes so curriculum reflects the latest CANES fleet baseline.
• Develop and maintain CANES and C4I courseware, lesson plans, student guides, presentations, and practical lab exercises.
• Apply Instructional System Design methodology to define training requirements and learning objectives.
• Use Navy authoring tools, including CPM/LOM and AIM, to develop and manage curriculum.
• Ensure training materials reflect real-world system administration practices and fleet operational standards.
• Support pilot courses and fleet training events, evaluate effectiveness, and incorporate feedback.

Requirements

• Experience supporting Navy TACNET, CANES, ISNS/COMPOSE, or other C4I systems.
• High school diploma or GED and at least five years of experience supporting computerized systems, network protocols, system administration, or LAN environments.
• Experience with system configurations, upgrades, or baseline changes in operational or sustainment environments.
• Strong understanding of shipboard network architecture and operational practices, with the ability to interpret technical documentation.
• DoD 8570 and/or 8140 cybersecurity workforce qualification within nine months of hire.
• Active Secret Clearance required at the time of hire.

Nice to have

• Recent hands-on experience with CANES or COMPOSE.
• Fleet sustainment, Regional Maintenance Center, or in-service engineering experience.
• Experience developing training materials, SOPs, technical guides, or configuration documentation.
• Familiarity with Navy training development processes, VMware, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows Server, or Cisco networking.
• Experience mentoring or guiding technical personnel.
