Artistic Director (Animation)

Location: Remote, Canada; position based in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and are asked whether they currently reside in Quebec.

hirify.global is an animation studio creating animated content for television, feature films, cinematics, amusement park experiences, motion capture, and video games.

What you will do

• Bring the established artistic vision of an AAA cinematic project to life while meeting quality standards and production parameters.
• Build and maintain the project’s artistic bible from the client brief and Creative Director’s direction.
• Supervise, guide, and validate conceptual illustrations for characters and environments, including references and moodboards.
• Ensure models, textures, shading, surfacing, lighting, compositing, and 2D effects follow the project’s visual rules.
• Collaborate with the Creative Director, VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, production manager, HR, and supervised departments.
• Support talent management, training needs, performance evaluations, and timely, high-quality project delivery.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience in art direction, production design, conceptual work, or illustration in animation.
• Strong expertise in digital painting, including color, values, hand-painted textures, and character skin tones.
• Mastery of painterly styles, visual development, cinematic composition, lighting, color, silhouettes, and atmospheric perspective.
• Experience translating 2D painted styles into stylized 3D through collaboration with look development, texturing, shading, and lighting teams.
• Ability to create concepts, paintovers, and lighting references, provide precise feedback, and maintain visual consistency through final shots.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, teamwork, adaptability, attention to detail, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
