Product Design Engineer (Drones): Designing and developing mechanical parts, assemblies, and electromechanical systems for autonomous aircraft, ground stations, and accessories with an accent on complex assemblies, manufacturing processes, and production readiness. Focus on integrating electrical components, validating designs through testing and analysis, debugging root causes, and driving products from prototyping through mass production.
Location: Remote in the United States; San Mateo, California
Annual base salary: $175,000–$205,000

What you will do
- Design mechanical parts and assemblies for aircraft, ground stations, and accessories from initial architecture through production.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate PCBAs, flex circuits, antennas, and cable harnesses.
- Coordinate technical activities with vendors and partner with operations and supply chain teams.
- Define engineering tests, perform analysis, and evaluate system trade-offs to validate designs.
- Drive designs from prototyping and pre-production into mass production, supporting manufacturing processes, quality, and inspection criteria.
- Investigate failures and identify root causes through detailed debugging.
Requirements
- Experience developing products with a proven record of execution and collaboration; the role may be senior-level depending on experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with demonstrated academic excellence.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and engineering fundamentals for sophisticated electromechanical systems.
- Advanced 3D CAD skills for complex assemblies; CATIA experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience designing for injection molding, metal casting, and CNC machining; sheet metal forming and composites are desirable.
- Ability to create detailed mechanical part and assembly drawings and prototype efficiently.
Nice to have
- Experience with sheet metal forming and composite materials.
- FAA Part 107 certification; obtaining it within the first 60 days is strongly encouraged and may be required for certain positions.
