Content Writer – Contextual Content - Native American Research Expert

Location: Remote contractor role for candidates in the United States

What you will do

• Collaborate with the Editor and Program Manager to develop and revise writing assignments.
• Conduct in-depth historical and genealogical research to support content.
• Write record descriptions, personalized stories based on historical records, and blog posts.
• Apply style guidelines, maintain consistent quality and tone, and ensure audience awareness.
• Verify facts through thorough research and complete assignments by submission deadlines.
• Provide status updates and reports to the Editor and Program Manager.

Requirements

• Specialized experience in Native American history and genealogy research and writing.
• Ability to create accurate content for Collection Descriptions and StoryScout while accounting for cultural nuances.
• Experience writing about historical events and sensitive topics.
• Excellent writing, editing, communication, research, and fact-checking skills.
• Ability to interpret and follow style guides, tone standards, and editorial guidelines.
• Background in family history and strong attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Degree in history, English, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional writing experience.
• Academic or professional background in Native American studies or another listed area of historical and cultural studies.
• Demonstrated self-starter and ability to manage deadlines independently.
