Content Writer – Contextual Content - UKI Research Expert (Genealogy)

Location: Remote contractor role, subject to location restrictions and eligible US locations.

Compensation: $25–$155 per published piece.

What you will do

• Collaborate with the Editor and Program Manager to develop and revise writing assignments.
• Conduct in-depth historical and genealogical research to support content.
• Write record descriptions, personalized historical stories, and blog posts.
• Apply style guidelines, department standards, audience awareness, and consistent tone.
• Verify facts through thorough research and complete assignments by submission deadlines.
• Provide status updates and reports to the Editor and Program Manager.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience with UK and Irish genealogy research and writing is required.
• Strong understanding of the differences between UKI and US genealogy.
• Experience writing and editing collection descriptions, including revising legacy content.
• Familiarity with UK English, regional terminology, and UKI writing standards.
• Excellent writing, editing, communication, research, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Background in family history and experience writing about historical or sensitive topics.

Nice to have

• Degree in history, English, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional writing experience.
• Academic or professional background in British, European, American, African American, Latin American, Native American, Asian American, French, or Australian studies.
