TL;DR
Controls & Dynamics Engineer (UAV) (flight controls and aerospace): Developing, validating, and tuning UAV flight behaviour across aircraft configurations, payloads, and operating conditions with an accent on modelling, simulation, and flight data analysis. Focus on improving stability and control response, developing guidance and mission logic, and validating changes through software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and flight testing.

Location: Onsite in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada

Company

hirify.global delivers piloted and remotely piloted aircraft systems and aerial intelligence solutions for defense, infrastructure, energy, public safety, and logistics.

What you will do

  • Configure and tune control loops to improve UAV stability, tracking accuracy, disturbance rejection, and flight-mode transitions.
  • Develop guidance and trajectory-control strategies for take-off, approach, hover, manoeuvring, landing, and mission-specific behaviours.
  • Model aircraft and payload dynamics, including payload mass, distribution, mounting, movement, suspended loads, and aircraft-payload coupling.
  • Develop mission sequencing, mode transitions, pilot handover, recovery behaviours, and control strategies for moving targets and recovery locations.
  • Build dynamic models, identify system parameters, and evaluate changes through software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Analyse flight logs and telemetry, support flight tests, define acceptance criteria, and maintain traceable tuning and test documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, controls engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of professional control-systems engineering experience with UAVs, aircraft, robotics, or comparable dynamic systems, including physical hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of flight and load dynamics, feedback control, stability analysis, system identification, and signal processing.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or equivalent engineering analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of autopilot architectures, sensor interfaces, state estimation, coordinate frames, and real-time control systems.
  • Familiarity with PX4, ArduPilot, Veronte, or comparable flight-control systems, plus strong troubleshooting, technical writing, and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with rotary-wing or heavy-lift UAVs, suspended loads, tether dynamics, or aircraft-payload coupling.
  • Knowledge of model predictive, robust, adaptive, or advanced flight-control methods.
  • Experience with vision-based tracking, GNSS/RTK, inertial measurements, telemetry, C/C++, embedded systems, or companion computers.
  • Experience with automated flight-log analysis, simulation-based regression testing, repeatable tuning workflows, RPAS flight testing, risk assessment, or safety-critical systems.

Culture & Benefits

  • Onsite work with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday.
  • Flexibility may be required to support operational needs and time-sensitive activities.
  • Competitive salary, comprehensive group benefits, and a group RRSP.
  • Collaborative work with a global engineering and flight-operations team on aerospace projects.
  • Accommodation is available throughout the recruitment process upon request.
