Senior DevOps Engineer (Bioinformatics)

Location: Remote, with the ability to work from anywhere; the talent pool is spread across Europe. The company foundation is in Athens.

hirify.global develops VarSome, a bioinformatics platform for finding, sharing, and interpreting human genome variant data for academic, clinical, and industry laboratories.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain cloud and on-premises infrastructure across GCP, OCI, and Linux environments using Terraform and Ansible.
• Design and manage secure network architectures, including VPCs, subnets, firewalls, and load balancing.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Workflows or Cloud Build and manage GitHub repositories.
• Troubleshoot production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement reliability improvements.
• Build logging, monitoring, and alerting systems; automate operational tasks with Python and Bash.
• Manage the APISIX Gateway, contribute to technical planning and documentation, and provide scheduled on-call support.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar role, including at least 4 years working with UNIX/Linux systems.
• Strong experience with Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Git/GitHub, Vault, Packer, and network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP/S.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud networking concepts, ideally GCP and OCI.
• Experience with Python and/or Bash scripting, troubleshooting, and configuration management.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders in Agile environments using Jira and Confluence.
• Fluent written and spoken English is required.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Kubernetes.
• Experience with APISIX, GitHub Workflows, or Cloud Build.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, or cloud-native monitoring solutions.
• GCP or OCI certifications.
• Experience supporting multicultural, internationally distributed engineering teams in a scale-up environment.
