ML Engineer, Behavior Planning (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; remote is listed, but employees are expected to work from the office at least 3 days per week.

Base salary: $139,000–$223,000 per year, plus potential annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define the architecture of onboard behavior-planning models for the hirify.global Driver.
• Develop and deploy large-scale models trained with imitation learning and reinforcement learning.
• Build offboard critic models to evaluate comfort, progress, and safety at scale.
• Architect foundation models and world models for next-generation driving simulation.
• Advance autonomous-driving research and deploy models on production vehicles operating on public roads.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in robotics, machine learning, computer science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience developing advanced machine-learning models in research or production.
• Hands-on experience with imitation learning or reinforcement learning for physical or simulated agents.
• Experience training large models on massive datasets using distributed computing.
• Fluency in Python and deep experience with PyTorch or another modern machine-learning framework.
• Mastery of modern architectures including Transformers and Diffusion Models.

Nice to have

• Publications at top-tier machine-learning conferences.
• Experience deploying complex machine-learning systems in production.
• Experience with generative models or neural simulators for synthetic-data generation.
• Fluency in C++.
