Staff Software Engineer, Security (AI)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States; employee must work on U.S. soil and be a U.S. person.

Annual base salary: $194,000–$267,000 for candidates in California excluding the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington; an additional range of $174,000–$239,000 USD is listed.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and own security-oriented frameworks and features for large-scale Okta services.
• Develop security roadmap requirements in partnership with engineering, security, and product organizations.
• Apply defense-in-depth, least privilege, and industry security standards across systems and infrastructure.
• Research and implement security solutions involving application security, cryptography, authentication, authorization, certificates, and secrets management.
• Participate in cross-vertical code reviews and troubleshoot production issues affecting reliability, security, and performance.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers while leading complex security initiatives.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing and implementing software systems in Java.
• 4+ years of experience designing and implementing security solutions for applications and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS or GCP, MySQL and related replication and clustering concepts, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
• Understanding of post-quantum cryptography, cryptographic migration strategies, and secure enterprise integration.
• Understanding of production-grade agentic AI systems, including autonomous and multi-agent architectures.
• Must be on U.S. soil and qualify as a U.S. person; working on a U.S. visa does not qualify.
