3D FX Lead

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Must be legally eligible to work in British Columbia. Priority is given to British Columbia residents, Canadians, and Canadian permanent residents.

Salary: CAD 90,000–100,000 per year, based on leadership experience.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and support 3D FX artists while troubleshooting complex production challenges.
• Conceptualize and create technically demanding hero effects for natural and supernatural environments.
• Develop particles, rigid body and fluid simulations, destruction, smoke, dust, lightning, fire, storms, and explosions.
• Partner with the FX Supervisor and production team to bid shot complexity and assign work according to artist strengths.
• Run department dailies and team meetings while maintaining creative and technical quality standards.
• Collaborate with Pipeline and other departments to establish best practices and keep production on schedule.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industry experience creating effects simulations for feature films, episodic television, or games.
• Previous experience guiding or leading artists.
• High proficiency in Houdini, Maya, and Nuke Compositing.
• Mastery of the 3D animation production pipeline and integrating high-quality effects into scenes.
• Legal eligibility to work in British Columbia is required.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of Flow Production Tracking, formerly ShotGrid.
• Experience with non-photorealistic rendering.
• Interest in learning new techniques and staying current with 3D FX software tools.
