Staff / Principal Research Scientist (AI)

Location: In-person at the Mountain View, California office, USA; relocation assistance is offered.

Base salary: $270,000–$500,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Research and develop foundation models, new architectures, and agentic AI systems.
• Design benchmarks, evaluation loops, quality measurement methods, and failure analyses.
• Investigate multimodal models, tool use, test-time compute, and world models.
• Own research end to end, from framing questions and running experiments to writing papers and shipping results.
• Build research that improves realtime AI products and high-volume inference systems.

Requirements

• Strong practical experience in machine learning, natural language processing, or related AI research.
• Experience with foundation model training, reinforcement learning, reward modeling, scaling, evaluation, or agentic systems.
• PhD in machine learning or natural language processing, or equivalent practical experience.
• Evidence of substantial public work, such as AI projects, interdisciplinary experiments, or open-source contributions.
• Ability to work through ambiguous problems, design experiments, and connect research to shipped impact.
• Willingness to collaborate in person at the Mountain View office, USA.
