Junior Engineer, Electrical and Automation

Location: 42 Vestey Drive, Mount Wellington, Auckland 1060, New Zealand. The role involves working in office and industrial site environments, with occasional travel for projects and commissioning activities.

Salary: NZD 75,000–90,000 per year, plus superannuation employer contribution.

What you will do

• Support the design and documentation of electrical systems, drawings, wiring diagrams, and project records.
• Assist with selecting and integrating electrical components, sensors, motors, and control equipment.
• Support automation and control system testing, configuration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
• Help maintain engineering templates, tools, technical documentation, records, and user guides.
• Support project engineers through design, testing, commissioning, customer installation, and project handover.
• Participate in design reviews, systems integration, technical problem-solving, and safety initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Exposure to electrical design, automation, controls, or engineering projects through study, internships, personal projects, or work experience.
• Strong curiosity, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and willingness to learn new technologies and engineering practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
• Comfort working with engineers, project teams, customers, and other stakeholders in office and industrial environments.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel occasionally for project and commissioning activities.

Nice to have

• Exposure to EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical design software.
• Exposure to PLCs, industrial automation, controls, or systems integration.
• Early-career, internship, engineering project, technical hobby, or industrial environment experience.
