Development Engineer II - Neutron (Composites): Designing, building, and testing composite and metallic components and fluid systems for the Neutron launch vehicle with an accent on CAD iteration, manufacturable drawing packages, and development testing. Focus on defining requirements, producing prototype parts and test fixtures, refining designs from test data, and addressing quality issues under tight deadlines.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; onsite office role
Company
is an end-to-end aerospace company developing rockets, spacecraft, and critical subsystems, including the Neutron launch vehicle.
What you will do
- Design, build, and test fluid systems, composite components, metallic structures, and mechanical assemblies for the Neutron launch vehicle.
- Rapidly iterate conceptual designs and produce detailed CAD designs, including composite inserts, laminates, joint details, metallic interfaces, and secondary structures.
- Prepare drawing packages and laminate books with manufacturability considered throughout the design process.
- Develop test jigs and fixtures for fabrication, assembly, and component development testing.
- Produce design documentation, including FMEA, P&IDs, and ICDs, while defining requirements and designing prototype parts.
- Improve design processes and proactively address quality issues.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in aerospace, mechanical, or mechatronic engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience designing high-performance mechanical systems.
- Experience with CAD software such as NX, Fibersim, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
- Analytical skills, strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- For the New Zealand role, nationality and background checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required.
Nice to have
