Principal Machine Learning Engineer (Search)

Location: Seattle, USA

Base pay: $209,000–$360,000 per year, depending on geographic market, knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Analyze bottlenecks in search and recommendation systems and quantify defects.
• Propose solutions using machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and other state-of-the-art technologies.
• Implement search and discovery improvements and conduct A/B tests.
• Develop personalization ranking models and integrate them into the search ranking stack.
• Build personalized retrieval, recommendation models for discovery interfaces, and user understanding systems.
• Provide technical leadership and build organizational consensus around solutions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in search, information retrieval, recommendation systems, machine learning, deep learning, or natural language processing.
• Proficient coding skills in Java, C++, or Python.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience handling large data volumes in distributed environments.
• Pragmatic, open-minded, and strong problem-solving approach.

Nice to have

• PhD in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience with e-commerce, social network, or search companies.
• Experience exploring, automating, and optimizing distributed systems and tools.
• Strong interest in developing new technology and deep domain expertise.
