TL;DR
Lead Level Designer (Unreal Engine/Gamedev): Leading the creation of atmospheric playable levels for an unannounced AAA action game, from initial pitch and blockouts through gameplay implementation and final delivery, with an accent on gameplay flow, pacing, visual composition, and cross-discipline collaboration. What you will do
- Lead the creation of playable levels from initial pitch through final delivery for an unannounced AAA title.
- Collaborate with directors and art, narrative, audio, programming, animation, and design teams to shape gameplay flow, pacing, composition, and atmosphere.
- Build blockouts and implement gameplay events including interactions, combat encounters, puzzles, narrative scenes, and objectives in Unreal Engine.
- Establish level design pipelines and workflows while maintaining alignment between design, art, and technical teams.
- Review and iterate on layouts and gameplay through feedback and playtesting, ensuring balanced and engaging player experiences.
- Mentor level designers and provide direction for level art, placeholder assets, terrain, and basic lighting.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Level Designer.
- Experience working on at least one AA or AAA project.
- Strong experience with Unreal Engine, level design principles, game design concepts, player psychology, spatial perception, and visual composition.
- Basic scripting knowledge, such as Unreal Engine Blueprints, for implementing gameplay mechanics or environmental behaviors.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Maya, Blender, or 3DS Max.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to document and visually communicate design ideas.
Nice to have
- Understanding of physics and simulation tools in Unreal Engine.
- Experience leading and mentoring team members.
