Intern - Data Science (AI)

Location: Basel, Switzerland; based at the Advanced Materials Innovation Center

What you will do

• Compile and analyze experimental data from archived chemistry and materials science projects.
• Build, maintain, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Develop, prototype, and test LLM-based architectures and agentic systems for the enterprise Generative AI Platform.
• Translate domain-specific challenges into computational solutions involving retrieval, ranking, and reasoning.
• Automate manual processes and dashboards while participating in code reviews and agile development cycles.
• Document data workflows, processing scripts, and technical reports in collaboration with the Technology Department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree completed or current enrollment in a Master’s programme in computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, or statistics.
• Strong programming skills in Python; basic knowledge of web development frameworks and SQL.
• Familiarity with LLMs, vector databases, prompt engineering, and cloud platforms such as Azure.
• Fluent English required.
• Analytical, proactive, collaborative, and motivated to contribute to digital transformation.

Nice to have

• JavaScript programming skills.
• Basic knowledge of machine learning.
• Knowledge of chemistry or materials science.
