R&D PhD Summer Intern (Generative AI)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the Boston office

What you will do

• Develop and evaluate multimodal Generative AI approaches for understanding skin and hair perception from images.
• Connect image-based technical measurements with consumer data to identify visual drivers of perception and product experience.
• Build benchmarks, evaluation datasets, and metrics that assess model alignment with human perception.
• Explore agentic and multimodal AI workflows combining images, technical measurements, and consumer data.
• Translate research findings into actionable insights for R&D and product development.

Requirements

• Working toward a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Data Science, Statistics, Cognitive Science, Human Factors, or a related quantitative or scientific field.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning, computer vision, multimodal AI, image analysis, data analysis, statistics, or quantitative modeling.
• Availability for a 12-week internship from May or early June through August 2027.
• Ability to work in the Boston office 3 days per week.
• Strong scientific, analytical, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary research skills.
• Immigration sponsorship is not available for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience with image processing, statistical modeling, perception research, human-subject studies, or multimodal data analysis.
• Experience connecting objective measurements to human perception.
• Familiarity with vision-language models, foundation models, or agentic AI workflows.
• Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and collaborative development workflows.
