Senior Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: Milan, Italy; hybrid with three days per week in-office (Tuesday, Thursday, and one additional day)

Initial salary: Starting from €97,200 gross per annum

What you will do

• Set the technical and organizational direction for the Consumer domain across three engineering teams.
• Manage and develop three Engineering Managers and a Staff Engineer supporting 15–25 engineers.
• Translate product and business goals into predictable technical roadmaps and coordinate cross-team dependencies.
• Partner with Product leadership, Staff and Principal Engineers, and peer Engineering Managers on priorities and engineering standards.
• Communicate domain progress, risks, and blockers to senior leadership.
• Guide architectural decisions across PostgreSQL, Java, Spring Boot, AWS infrastructure, Elasticsearch, and Datadog.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience and 4+ years managing engineers, including other managers.
• Strong people management, coaching, empathy, and inclusive leadership skills.
• Expertise in distributed systems, API design, scalable backend services, and cloud architecture.
• Experience owning complex, cross-team delivery using Agile methodologies and metrics.
• Fluent English and the ability to communicate with engineers, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
• Interest in fintech and investment products, preferably in regulated, high-trust environments.
