TL;DR
Lead Software Engineer (Computer Vision): Building and optimizing video processing and perception pipelines for low-SWaP embedded processors integrated into unmanned aerial systems and maritime surface vessels with an accent on C++, computer vision, and embedded performance. Focus on implementing algorithms, validating software through testing and field experimentation, and mentoring engineers while supporting autonomous robotic systems.

Location: Centreville, Virginia, United States; onsite office environment. U.S. Citizenship required. Regular travel within the continental U.S. is required, up to 40%. Candidates must be willing to work on government contracts and obtain a DoD security clearance. ITAR/EAR compliance requires U.S. person eligibility or export-license approval.

Salary: $128,000–$195,250 per year

What you will do

  • Implement and optimize computer vision, video processing, and perception algorithms in C++.
  • Develop pipelines for low-SWaP embedded processors such as Nvidia Xavier and Orin.
  • Integrate perception capabilities into unmanned aerial systems and unmanned surface vessels.
  • Design, implement, document, test, and validate software using established engineering processes.
  • Support demonstrations, benchtop testing, operational field experimentation, and customer-facing technical reporting.
  • Collaborate with software developers, customers, and external developers while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 8–12 years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Strong C/C++ skills, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and development workflows.
  • Experience with CMake, modern C++ build systems, Python tooling, Linux, unit testing, debugging, Git, IDEs, and debuggers.
  • Demonstrated mathematical, analytical, communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship, ITAR/EAR eligibility, willingness to obtain a DoD security clearance, and willingness to obtain or hold an FAA Part 107 certification are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DDS, gRPC, or Rust.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and computer vision concepts.
