Autonomy Engineering Intern (AI)

Location: Frederick, Maryland, United States; the role combines office work with physical activity in field or production environments.

Salary: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

What you will do

• Support the advanced technologies group in developing next-generation products using AI-based object detection, virtual reality, and augmented reality.
• Develop solutions with Python and C++ on Linux or Ubuntu systems.
• Build image-processing and augmented-reality applications with OpenCV.
• Use ROS2 to build and deploy autonomy on robotic platforms.
• Train and deploy deep learning and machine learning models using TensorFlow, PyTorch, transfer learning, and NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded boards.
• Design, model, and test systems integrated with aerial work platforms, telehandlers, and scissors while applying product development, reliability, lifecycle management, and design-for-manufacturing principles.

Requirements

• Student pursuing a bachelor's degree in robotics, computer engineering, or electrical engineering.
• Fluency in C++, Python, and Linux or Ubuntu is required.
• Exposure to training and deployment workflows.
• Graduation in December 2025 or 2026.
• Ability to work in office, field, and production environments, including standing, walking across varied terrain, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working around changing temperatures or noise.

Nice to have

• Exposure to neural network frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Previous internship or work-related experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing needs and tight deadlines.
