Vulnerability Defense Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas or Washington, D.C.; in-person interview attendance may be required at a hirify.global office or hub.

Salary: $150,000–$206,000 annual salary for Washington, D.C.-based hires; compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and scale distributed tools and services that turn security tradecraft into evidence-based systems and workflows.
• Partner with security practitioners to understand workflows, bottlenecks, and automation opportunities.
• Improve the architecture, stability, performance, and maintainability of internal and customer-facing services.
• Analyze and communicate complex technical concepts and help prioritize work across teams.
• Mentor developers and promote well-tested, modular, and reusable code.
• Participate in on-call support outside standard working hours when technical issues arise.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building large-scale software applications, preferably distributed systems.
• Production experience with Go and/or TypeScript; familiarity with Rust, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, Terraform, and PostgreSQL is relevant.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts including threat modeling, attack techniques, trust boundaries, exploitability, and defensive controls.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and/or gRPC, SQL, relational databases, debugging, optimization, and production-quality testing.
• Ability to independently define and deliver solutions in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Austin, Texas or Washington, D.C.

Nice to have

• Application security, security research, vulnerability research, exploit development, or security automation experience.
• Incident response, network containment, remediation, or defensive control experience.
• Experience with AI-assisted development, agentic AI workflows, or probabilistic systems.
• Deep knowledge of DNS, TLS/SSL, and HTTP.
• Interest in serving as a technical mentor.
