TL;DR
Senior Kafka Engineer (Apache Kafka/Kubernetes): Building and operating highly available multi-cluster messaging and integration platforms with an accent on Kafka administration, security, automation, observability, and disaster recovery. Focus on designing scalable Kafka environments, developing custom connectors, implementing self-service and guardrails, and resolving complex production incidents across distributed infrastructure.

What you will do
- Design, deploy, operate, and maintain multi-cluster and multi-region Apache Kafka environments on Kubernetes using Strimzi or similar technologies.
- Administer HiveMQ MQTT platforms and manage Kafka, Strimzi, and HiveMQ upgrades, patching, availability, and lifecycle activities.
- Develop Kafka Connect source and sink connectors for integrations between legacy systems and cloud environments.
- Implement scaling, partitioning, replication, disaster recovery, traffic routing, security controls, and schema governance.
- Build observability, dashboards, alerts, automated guardrails, and incident-prevention processes using production infrastructure metrics.
- Provide Tier 3 support and technical guidance to Java and Spring Boot development teams on Kafka integrations and performance.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of platform-level experience with Apache Kafka, including cluster administration, performance tuning, security, replication, partitioning, retention, and scaling.
- Experience with Strimzi Operator, Kafka on Kubernetes, Kafka Connect API, Kafka KRaft, and HiveMQ or enterprise MQTT platforms.
- 4–6 years of experience with Java and Spring Boot, plus experience with Kafka integrations, custom connectors, and PostgreSQL.
- Strong Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service administration experience, with knowledge of Linux, WSL, Azure, and other major cloud platforms.
- Experience with GitHub Actions or Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitOps, Terraform, Helm, OCI artifacts, and automated platform lifecycle management.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and production monitoring, dashboards, alerting, Fluent Bit, or OpenTelemetry.
Nice to have
- Experience with API Management, Envoy Gateway, KEDA, OAuth/OIDC, and API security.
- Experience across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud, including cloud cost optimization.
- Experience in large enterprise integration or platform engineering departments.
