Student Worker - R&D Processing (ABS)

Location: Billund, Denmark. The primary workplace is an office, store, or factory, with a hybrid policy averaging 3 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Research and screen solvents and solvent blends for welding ABS, considering polymer interaction, evaporation rate, and practical handling.
• Plan and execute structured laboratory experiments using Design of Experiments principles where appropriate.
• Relate bond performance to solvent selection and process conditions to define a practical process window.
• Document test methods, results, conclusions, recommendations, and the chemical background behind observations.
• Collaborate with Materials, Quality, Element Development, Product Safety, and EHS colleagues.

Requirements

• Currently studying Polymer Science, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or master’s programme and interested in laboratory-based development work.
• Basic understanding of polymer-solvent interactions and an interest in polymers, materials, or joining processes.
• Ability to plan laboratory experiments, analyse data, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
• Strong documentation and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Awareness of laboratory safety, chemical handling, and EHS considerations.
• Experience with microscopy, cross-section preparation, materials characterization, or mechanical testing of bonded or welded joints.
• Experience with Design of Experiments or statistical analysis.
• Knowledge of ABS and solvent-based polymer joining.
