Director, Privacy (Data Protection Officer)

Location: Vienna, Austria

Minimum salary: €84,826 gross per year; compensation may be significantly higher based on market rates.

What you will do

• Lead the global privacy program and serve as Data Protection Officer for Europe-based privacy obligations.
• Translate global privacy, data protection, and AI regulations into governance frameworks, procedures, controls, and operating models.
• Advise senior leadership and cross-functional teams across Legal, Security, Product, Engineering, GRC, Procurement, Sales, Marketing, and Go-to-Market.
• Support ISO/IEC 27701 audits, certification activities, remediation, continuous improvement, and OneTrust privacy operations.
• Develop privacy provisions, DPAs, contract playbooks, training resources, and commercial contracting guidance.
• Build and lead a high-performing global privacy team while embedding privacy-by-design, incident response, and breach notification processes.

Requirements

• Qualified to practice law in an EU member state.
• 10+ years of experience in privacy, data protection, and compliance, including 5+ years in-house at a global software company.
• Deep knowledge of GDPR, e-Privacy requirements, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, PDPA, the Australian Privacy Act, UK GDPR, and AI-related privacy obligations.
• Experience serving as a DPO or performing equivalent European privacy, regulatory engagement, compliance oversight, and risk management responsibilities.
• Experience with ISO/IEC 27701 or comparable privacy management frameworks, including audits, controls, remediation, and continuous improvement.
• IAPP certification such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or CIPM, plus experience with OneTrust or a comparable privacy management platform.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI governance, AI agent governance, responsible data use, technical control reviews, or emerging technology risk programs.
• Experience partnering with product organizations on privacy-by-design initiatives.
• Knowledge of cross-border data transfers, European privacy expectations, and global data governance.
• Background as a privacy attorney or operational privacy leader working closely with technical, engineering, security, or data governance teams.
• Experience with incident response and regulatory breach notification requirements, or relevant privacy certifications.
