Lead Software Engineer (Java/React)

Salary: €4,600+ gross per month; base minimum pay of €52,824

What you will do

• Lead hands-on engineering work and translate architectural intent into scalable, secure, and maintainable technical decisions.
• Own and continuously curate the technical backlog, including dependency upgrades, technical debt reduction, performance, reliability, security, and compliance improvements.
• Supervise test management and defect handling while partnering with QA and L2/L3 support to ensure production readiness.
• Set and improve standards for code quality, test coverage, delivery predictability, and engineering metrics.
• Mentor engineers, identify skill gaps, support upskilling, and promote modern development tooling including responsible AI-assisted development.
• Collaborate with Slovakia-based engineering leadership and Cat Digital IT in the US.

Requirements

• Strong technical leadership, decision-making, communication, SDLC, Agile, and enterprise software development experience.
• Experience designing scalable systems with APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, asynchronous communication, and cloud-native patterns.
• Experience with HTML5, CSS3, React, Node.js, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, REST APIs, SQL, Java 21, and Spring Boot 3.
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, entitlement-driven access models, OWASP Top 10, SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, and application security testing.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, automated testing, regression strategies, Playwright, and Agile/Scrum delivery.
• Experience working in GenAI-enabled environments and using AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar.

Nice to have

• Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience modernizing or stabilizing large, long-lived codebases.
• Exposure to production monitoring, observability, and operational support.
