Director of Legal Engineering (AI)

What you will do

• Set the priorities, operating model, and delivery standards for Legal Engineering in Japan.
• Recruit, coach, and develop Legal Engineers with strong legal expertise, product fluency, and customer judgment.
• Lead customer discovery, pilots, workflow design, training, implementation, and adoption initiatives.
• Build relationships with law firm partners, general counsel, innovation leaders, and other senior stakeholders.
• Help customers redesign legal workflows, assess AI output quality, and establish appropriate human review.
• Partner with Sales, Product, Engineering, and global Legal Engineering leadership to support customer growth and product development.

Requirements

• Substantial legal-sector experience, including law firm experience and strong knowledge of legal practice, workflows, and client expectations.
• Experience delivering legal technology or AI transformation initiatives from experimentation through sustained adoption.
• Proven experience leading people and complex initiatives, including recruiting, coaching, and team development.
• Credibility with senior legal professionals and the ability to lead workshops, demonstrate products, and work through detailed use cases.
• Strong commercial judgment and the ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear priorities and executable plans.
• Business-level English and a commitment to being based in Tokyo, Japan.
