Senior Security Operations Engineer (Cloud/Kubernetes)

Location: Livingston, New Jersey, United States; participation in a 24/7/365 SOC includes rotating overnight and weekend on-call coverage.

Salary: $134,000–$179,000 base salary per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits based on eligibility.

What you will do

• Investigate and respond independently to complex security events across Linux, macOS, cloud, and Kubernetes environments.
• Assess incident scope, impact, severity, and escalation paths, then coordinate containment and remediation with security, engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams.
• Use SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and related security tools to identify suspicious activity and produce actionable findings.
• Develop and improve detections-as-code, investigation procedures, automation, runbooks, and response workflows.
• Conduct post-incident reviews and partner with threat intelligence and detection engineering teams to address coverage gaps.
• Mentor junior engineers, review investigations, and lead operational and technical projects that improve SOC effectiveness and scalability.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of experience in security operations, incident response, digital forensics, detection engineering, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and macOS internals, logging, forensic artifacts, network protocols, VPNs, proxies, identity systems, and security technologies.
• Experience investigating Kubernetes or container security events and working with SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, and firewalls.
• Experience developing or tuning security detections, preferably with detections-as-code.
• Ability to manage complex investigations with incomplete information, communicate risk clearly, and make decisions under pressure.
• Must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. person or otherwise eligible to access the controlled information.

Nice to have

• Experience securing cloud infrastructure or large-scale production environments.
• Python or another scripting language for automating security workflows.
• Experience with Kubernetes-based incident response.
• Collaboration experience with detection engineering, threat intelligence, or software engineering teams.
