TL;DR
Senior Distributed Systems Engineer (DevOps) (AWS/Kubernetes): Designing and operating distributed cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and highly available systems serving millions of users with an accent on automation, observability, security, and multi-region AWS environments. Focus on optimizing large-scale Kubernetes deployments, improving platform reliability and developer productivity, and solving complex infrastructure and application performance challenges.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

What you will do
- Design infrastructure and automated systems for distributed architectures.
- Build, manage, and improve CI/CD pipelines, reducing deployment lead time and increasing reliability.
- Maintain highly available web and backend systems serving millions of users and thousands of requests per second.
- Deploy and manage cloud services and large-scale microservice environments on AWS, Kubernetes, and EC2.
- Build monitoring, alerting, infrastructure-as-code, and developer productivity tooling.
- Improve security, automate manual processes, and collaborate with developers and platform engineers to meet demanding SLO and SLA requirements.
Requirements
- 7+ years of DevOps experience and 5+ years of database administration experience.
- 4+ years orchestrating large-scale distributed microservice deployments on Kubernetes and EC2, including building and managing EKS clusters.
- Deep AWS expertise, including multi-region environments and Terraform-based infrastructure.
- Experience with Python, TypeScript, Go, or Bash for automation and infrastructure tooling.
- Advanced Kubernetes and Docker experience, including service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS, plus observability and security-focused CI/CD pipelines.
Nice to have
- BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with large-scale systems.
- Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenSearch, GitHub CI, or GitLab CI.
