Development, Lead (Java)

Location: Toronto, Canada; flexible hybrid work model

Salary: CAD 145,000–160,000 per year, plus eligibility for a short-term incentive plan

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership for Java-based Money Movement application development and modernization initiatives.
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale applications, APIs, integration services, and persistence layers.
• Lead solution, architecture, code, and technical design reviews while aligning implementations with enterprise standards.
• Build secure, scalable, and highly available payment integrations with financial institutions, payment networks, and enterprise platforms.
• Drive automated testing, CI/CD, release planning, production deployments, observability, and operational readiness.
• Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and mentor developers through coaching and technical guidance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience and 3+ years leading technical teams or major development initiatives.
• Expert-level Java development with strong Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Hibernate/JPA experience.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, SOAP/Web Services, API security, versioning, and governance practices.
• Experience with Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, SQL optimization, performance tuning, data modeling, and schema design.
• Experience with AWS, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven or Gradle, Docker, and containerized deployments.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, presentation, mentoring, and influencing skills, including the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.

Nice to have

• Financial services or payments industry experience, including hirify.global e-Transfer, RTR, ISO 20022, or payment modernization.
• Event-driven architecture, Kafka, enterprise integration platforms, or high-volume transaction processing experience.
• Experience with cloud migration and modernization programs.
