Junior NLP Data Scientist (Healthcare AI)

Salary: $5,692.25–$8,179.50 CAD monthly

A university research department developing artificial intelligence and digital health tools for psychiatry and supportive cancer care in collaboration with BC Cancer.

What you will do

• Design and develop predictive and generative NLP pipelines using clinical data.
• Contribute to front-end and back-end engineering for digital health applications.
• Build and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for deploying AI models, including AWS-based systems.
• Research state-of-the-art techniques in NLP, machine learning, and ethical AI.
• Collaborate with physicians, patients, developers, researchers, and other multidisciplinary partners to co-design and evaluate clinical tools.
• Support scientific manuscripts, conference abstracts, grant proposals, ethics submissions, and coordination of student developers.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
• At least one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with NLP libraries and toolkits such as Hugging Face, spaCy, or NLTK.
• Strong programming skills, preferably in Python, with experience using machine learning and data science frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Pandas.
• Ability to complete programming and data science assignments and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP and containerization tools such as Docker.
• Scientific publication experience.
• Experience with healthcare or clinical datasets, particularly in oncology or psychiatry.
• Knowledge of healthcare privacy regulations and responsible AI practices.
• Experience with digital health research, usability testing, or user-centered design.
