Java R&D Software Engineer (Software Security) (Java/Kotlin and mobile application security): Maintaining and extending Java-based products such as ProGuard and DexGuard with an accent on bytecode analysis, obfuscation, optimization, encryption, and code hardening. Focus on researching reverse-engineering-resistant techniques, solving complex low-level engineering problems, and turning security concepts into production-ready solutions.
Location: Leuven, Belgium; hybrid work policy.

What you will do
- Maintain and improve Java-based products including ProGuard and DexGuard.
- Research, test, and implement code hardening techniques.
- Work with Java bytecode, obfuscation, encryption, and application processing.
- Improve code quality through extensive testing.
- Follow reverse engineering and software security practices.
- Support customers with complex technical questions about the software.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in a similar software engineering role.
- Excellent Java and Kotlin skills.
- Experience working with complex codebases.
- Interest in low-level programming, debugging, and software security.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of compiler technology, Java bytecode, or complex application processing.
- Knowledge of obfuscation, optimization, or software protection techniques.
- Experience with reverse engineering and related tools.
- Familiarity with Android, Gradle, or ProGuard.
- Knowledge of information or application security.
