Staff Software Engineer (JavaScript)

Location: Fully remote, limited to the United States and Canada. Applicants must reside in the specified country and have permanent work authorization; visa sponsorship is not provided.

Salary: US: $180,000–$215,000 USD annually; Canada: $155,000–$190,000 CAD annually.

What you will do

• Lead the technical architecture of web-based Services products, including an appointment calendar and secure file storage and transfer solutions.
• Write production code, prototypes, and experiments across planning, testing, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Establish software patterns, evaluate technology choices, and improve scalable system architecture and infrastructure.
• Build analytics and data infrastructure to support user-informed product decisions and growth in users and subscribers.
• Provide technical and product direction across teams, collaborate with Mozilla and open-source contributors, and solve broad ambiguous problems.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, documentation, technical discussions, and ongoing guidance.

Requirements

• 10+ years of web software development experience, including scalable systems and complex web projects.
• Expert-level JavaScript and proficiency in at least one additional language such as Python, Rust, Go, or C++.
• Experience with front-end frameworks, full-stack development, and/or API development.
• Strong software development practices, including testing, code review, documentation, technical leadership, and mentorship.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for collaboration with an international distributed team.
• Experience working remotely across engineering, product, QA, design, and open-source communities; willingness to travel internationally when needed.
