Mining Lead (Mining Engineering)

Location: Sandton, South Africa; hybrid work with at least three days per week in the office or onsite with clients. Regular travel across South Africa, occasional international travel, and periodic extended mine-site visits are required.

What you will do

• Lead high-value mining engineering and risk consulting engagements beyond transactional surveys.
• Design survey and consulting scopes focused on risk reduction, operational resilience, capital prioritization, and insurance optimization.
• Develop consulting opportunities across the mining client base and represent risk consulting capabilities at industry forums and client events.
• Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary engineers and early-career consultants.
• Collaborate with mining, broking, client service, strategy, and global mining teams on integrated and cross-border projects.
• Own revenue, NOI, pipeline, forecasting, margin management, quality assurance, and client satisfaction for assigned services and territory.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of professional mining engineering experience, including significant operational or technical work.
• Experience with large-scale mining operations, consulting, technical project delivery, or operational leadership.
• Deep expertise in mine engineering, risk assessment, site surveys, and technical reporting.
• Commercial capability in scoping, pricing, margin management, consultative selling, negotiation, and client relationship management.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams, developing technical standards, and delivering commercial results.

Nice to have

• Postgraduate qualification in business, management, or a related field.
• Experience in insurance, risk management, PRC-style surveys, or working with brokers and insurers.
• Experience with diverse geographies and challenging operational mining environments.
