Research Software Engineer (Bioinformatics/ML)

Location: Based in Milan, Italy, at the hirify.global campus

Salary: €46,000–€50,000 per year, depending on seniority.

What you will do

• Develop and productionise computational workflows used across the research group.
• Harmonise tools, software usage, and shared technology stacks across laboratory projects.
• Maintain and improve code repositories hosted on GitHub and GitLab.
• Identify recurring usage patterns across projects and create reusable computational solutions.
• Support digital pathology, spatial transcriptomics, and human genetics projects in collaboration with the principal investigator, postdocs, and PhD students.

Requirements

• MSc in machine learning, computer science, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
• Strong programming and data-handling skills, including Git and HPC environments.
• Fluent English.
• Ability to work with machine learning, reproducible code, computational imaging, and bioinformatics or computational biology workflows related to genomics.

Nice to have

• PhD in a relevant field.
• Strong software engineering skills.
• Machine learning experience with spatial transcriptomics or digital pathology datasets.
• Interest in biology and solving biological problems, or willingness to learn.
